Opening ceremony to take place on 27 July

The opening ceremony of the European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025 will take place at Dr. Jenő Koltai Sports Center on 27 July 2025.

The 17th European Universities Volleyball Championship (EUC) will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from July 27 to August 3, 2025. Organized under the auspices of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), the tournament is hosted by the 100-yrear-old Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) in collaboration with its sports club, TFSE.

A great number of participants will attend the EUC: a total of 14 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams – 400 athletes – will compete for the medals.

The event will kick off with an opening ceremony which will be held at Dr. Jenő Koltai Sports Center, home of TF’s sports club, TFSE at 6 pm on 27 July 2025.

All EUC 2025 participants (players, coaches, team leaders, referees), members of the EUSA family, selected VIP guests, and a selection of volunteers will be invited to the grand-scale event.

The outdoor entertainment area at Dr. Jenő Koltai Sports Center, which is called the pre-opening event Fun Zone, will keep attendees entertained while waiting for the official ceremony to start. It features shaded waiting areas, face-painting stations, a raised stage with a DJ booth and sound system, and a hype man energizing the crowd. University cheerleaders will be performing a show to entertain the audience.

The programme will begin with an entrance parade led by the brass band, featuring the country flags and university banners for each participating university. This will be followed by a series of short and concise welcome speeches delivered by President of the Hungarian University Sport Federation Lajos Mocsai, TF’s rector Tamás Sterbenz, EUSA President Adam Roczek and Director of Sports Affairs at the National Sports Agency, Tamás Märcz.

Following the speeches, the Athlete and Referee Oath will take place, followed by a Cultural Entertainment Block featuring approximately 10 minutes of cultural performances.

After the ceremony, a standing self-service reception will be held for VIP guests in the sports center’s VIP room.

On the opening day of the event, a conference organized by TFSE will be held in the Athens lecture hall in the main university building. The event, which kicks off at 11am on 27 July 2025, is free to attend, and no registration is required. Click here to see the programme.
