Message from the President of EUSA
Dear Friends,
It is with great pleasure and appreciation that I extend a warm welcome to all our Organising Committees, athletes, partner universities, member and associated member institutions across Europe.
As we embark on another exciting chapter in the European University Sports Association's journey, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the commitment, energy, and collaboration you continuously bring to our shared mission. Your involvement is the cornerstone of every successful event, initiative, and milestone we achieve.
The European Universities movement continues to grow, thanks to your trust and dedication. Whether you are hosting a Championship, supporting student-athletes, or engaging in our educational and social responsibility projects, your contributions are shaping the future of university sport in Europe.
Our achievements in recent years, from the record-breaking European Universities Games to the expansion of our membership network, are a testament to the strength of our community. This success would not be possible without your invaluable partnership and the spirit of cooperation that defines our work together.
As we look forward to the 2025 European Universities Championships and beyond, I am confident that, together, we will continue to deliver impactful experiences for students, foster lasting international relationships, and inspire the next generation through sport.
Looking ahead, I invite all of you to join us for the 2025 European Universities Championships and to prepare for the European Universities Games 2026 in Salerno, Italy. These events are set to be even more inspiring as we strengthen the role of university sport in fostering inclusion, excellence, and cross-cultural dialogue across Europe.
As always, our achievements are the result of collective efforts. My sincere gratitude goes to our Member Federations, Organizing Committees, volunteers, partners, and the EUSA staff for their dedication and enthusiasm. I also thank FISU and the European Commission for their ongoing support, which enables us to expand our impact year after year.
Thank you for being an essential part of the EUSA Family. The championships are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate our collective efforts.
Let’s make 2025 another landmark year for university sports and the upcoming years!

Message from the Mayor of Budapest
Dear Participants,
A city or a country functions efficiently when its people are capable of both fair competition and collaboration in pursuit of shared goals. One of the best ways to learn and develop these abilities is through sport — which teaches perseverance, discipline, and encourages us to recognize and overcome our own limits.
I am proud that this year, Budapest is hosting the European Universities Volleyball Championship. This event also provides a meaningful opportunity for the Hungarian University of Sports Science, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, to mark this milestone in a fitting way.
Europe needs to see examples of healthy, fair competition and cooperation alike. The European Universities Volleyball Championship can serve as such an example — not only for university students, but for all of us. That is why Budapest warmly welcomes students from European universities, who I hope, by the end of the championship, will be united not only by sport but also by a shared love for Budapest.
Beyond everything mentioned above, I also consider university championships and similar sporting events important because, by promoting mass participation in sport, they contribute to improving the health awareness of Budapest’s citizens. According to the latest OECD health report, life expectancy at birth in Hungary is nearly five years shorter than the EU average. This is unacceptable, and we have committed to giving those five years back to the people of Budapest.
Healthcare developments and programs help us achieve this goal, but it is just as essential that the people of Budapest make efforts to live as many healthy years as possible. One of the best ways to do so is through regular physical activity and sport, which supports both our physical and mental well-being.
I am proud that, once again, we can bring together the youth of Europe here in Budapest. I wish all participants — locals and visitors alike — the best of luck, perseverance, and an unforgettable experience!
Gergely Karácsony
Mayor of Budapest
Message from the President of NUSA
Dear EUSA Family Members,
Dear Athletes and Friends,
It is a great honour to welcome you all to Budapest for the European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025, on behalf of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS) and as the President of the host institution, the Hungarian University of Sports Science.
For us, sport is more than physical activity — it is a cultural and educational force that brings people together, builds communities, and shapes future generations of responsible, healthy, and resilient individuals. Hosting this prestigious EUSA event at our university is a proud moment in our long-standing commitment to university sports and international collaboration.
Volleyball, as a dynamic and demanding team sport, perfectly reflects the values we strive to instil in our students: cooperation, determination, discipline, and mutual respect. These values are not only vital on the court but are essential for academic success and social engagement as well. We believe that university sport is a crucial bridge between competitive performance and personal development, and this championship will stand as a clear example of that.
We are delighted to welcome student-athletes from across Europe to our campus and to our beautiful capital city. We aim to provide an environment that is both inspiring and inclusive, where competition, learning, and lasting friendships can flourish. In the spirit of EUSA, we see this event not only as a tournament for medals but as a celebration of youth, sport, and European unity.
I wish all participants a successful and memorable championship, filled with outstanding performances, fair play, and positive experiences both on and off the court. I hope that your time in Budapest and at the Hungarian University of Sports Science will remain with you as a meaningful chapter in your university journey.

President, Hungarian University Sports Federation
Message from the Rector
Dear Participants, Friends, and Colleagues,
The Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), founded 100 years ago in 1925 as the College of Physical Education, and its sports club, TFSE, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, welcome the participants including university athletes, leaders, coaches, colleagues, and fellow sports enthusiasts of the European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025 in Budapest.
The Hungarian University of Sports Science is one of the oldest, most successful, and most prominent institutions for physical education and sports science in Central Europe. Since its foundation, the university’s leadership has always placed great importance on establishing TF as a leading centre for both Hungarian sport and the education of physical education teachers. One hundred years have passed, yet the institution’s core mission has remained the same: it wants TF expertise to stand behind every Hungarian sporting success. And fortunately, it often does, as evidenced by the more than 150 Olympic champions and over 300 Olympic medallists who have graduated from the institution.
In this ongoing mission, the connection with elite sport is particularly vital. That is why, alongside celebrating the university’s 100th anniversary, we also honour the centenary of the TFSE sports club, which as a premier athletic association provides practice opportunities for TF students — supporting more than 80 of them with athletic and professional development. I believe that competition is the best form of practice, and where better for university students to compete than within their university clubs or at the outstanding events organized by national and international university sports federations?
I am delighted that TF and TFSE, in their centenary year, have the honour of hosting the European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025, an outstanding sports event of the European University Sports Association (EUSA).
I wish you excellent competition and an enjoyable experience, and we also warmly invite all participants to visit not only the brand new Dr. Koltai Jenő Sports Centre but the university campus as well.
With warm regards,
Professor Tamás Sterbenz
Rector
