The upcoming European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025 will be hosted by the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
The Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) is going to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. This fact puts the upcoming European Universities Volleyball Championship 2025 in a different light because the university will have an opportunity to showcase its past and present to the tournament participants.
TF was established in 1925 and has gone through a number of changes since then. It is one of the oldest, most successful and professionally acclaimed universities for physical education and sports science in Central Europe with 3,000 students.
The university offers educational programmes for physical education teachers, physiotherapists, coaches, sport managers, recreation, human kinesiology, health or sport science experts. This is the only university in Hungary where a PhD degree in sport science can be obtained, and TF serves as a career incubation space as well as a life-long professional support for our students and alumni.
As a result of the university’s modern curriculum, multifunctional sports facilities and community spaces and events, the students can enjoy the opportunity to obtain competitive knowledge that meets labour market requirements while accumulating lifelong experiences with unique TF student life. It is also the proud home of numerous Olympic champions, great sports coaches, educators and recreation experts.
TF is also attended by many elite athletes. One gold, three silver and two bronze medals were won by students of the university at the 2024 Paris Olympics, two gold and one silver medal was taken by students and staff of the university at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. In addition, six gold, three silver and eight bronze medals were won by students of the university at the 2024 European University Games.
TF is currently involved in a major campus reconstruction and expansion project. The campus's old buildings used for educational purposes were renovated, and the new main building and the multifunctional sports complex was opened, thus opening up new ways of teaching, training and carrying out research on European level.
TF is an excellent host of great international sports events. The Dr. Koltai Jenő Sports Centre, which is the main venue of the tournament, was opened in 2023. It features a multifunctional hall with 1 500 seats, athletic track, football and tennis courts, a 700 m² gym, plus underground parking and event spaces. The sports centre served as the training facility for the athletes of the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest in 2023.
