The next must-see spot is the expanse that is Hősök tere (Heroes’ Square), a tribute to the chieftains who settled the region that would later become Hungary. There are several museums in the immediate vicinity of the square, while the City Park is just a stone’s throw away.
Another box to tick if you only have time for a one-day tour is the Castle District. The Castle is home to some of the most iconic locations in Budapest, such as the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, which both offer a magnificent view of the whole city.
At the city centre there are religious buildings that are an integral part of both the past and present of Budapest. The most important of these buildings are the monumental Saint Stephen’s Basilica, with its tower that gives you a spectacular view of the whole town, and the Dohány utca Synagogue, which is the largest synagogue in Europe.
When it comes to talking about bridges in Budapest, the first one everyone thinks of is the Chain Bridge (Lánchíd), which had the most influential history (it was the first permanent crossing), while the Liberty Bridge (Szabadság híd) spans the river at a location that is among the spots most frequently visited by tourists.
